5 uncommon professions that can earn you a living in Lagos

Some of these opportunities result in professions that are not normally viewed as common; however, they pay quite a lot.
Wondering what these unusual employment opportunities may be? Jumia Travel shares 5 uncommon vocations that can earn you a living in Lagos.

Voice-over artiste

So many adverts are shown on TV and radio on the regular with voice overs from different people. Who do you think are behind these voice overs? Celebrities? Not necessarily. Ad agencies and companies regularly hire and pay voice-over artistes for such tasks as dubbing for the television and audio productions, creating online books and audio files amongst other things.
These artistes can actually make as much as N50,000 for just 5 minutes of recording. If you have a great voice and you love reading from books and other textual matter, you can try this out.

Personal Shopper

Lagosians love fashion and no matter how broke they claim to be, a majority of the city’s residents will still shop till they drop. The thing, though, is that most of these people who can afford to shop so much, do not have the time or the skill per say to go out shopping for what they need to create the style they are looking for, they instead need personal shoppers to do the task for them.
Personal Shopping, though uncommon, is one of the easiest jobs to have in Lagos. The job is probably for people who like to shop all the time and it pays good money too.

Toll Booth Collector

Nobody ever thinks of this job when seeking for employment really, but if you don’t mind sitting in a cramped tin room and collecting money from people all day long, this certainly can be a dream job. From the highways to shopping malls and centers, toll booths are found all over Lagos and all a toll booth collector has to do is sit around in the tiny room, collect money from people driving off to better places.
The perk is that you could get tips from people who want to brighten up your day. The good thing is you can even just decide to work just night shifts and do something else in the day time. While this seems like a lazy job, it pays quite handsomely for the little work you do.

House-Sitting

This job which literally involves babysitting a house, mostly luxury homes, may seem far-fetched for Lagos , but it really is not. A number of people who own houses within the city either live in other countries or travel a lot and need people to tend to their houses while they are away. It is not common to find houses in Ikoyi area and Banana island, including VGC being occupied by house-sitters.
The responsibility of a house sitter is such that he/she ensures that when the homeowners are away, they safeguard the space, most times, living in their home like it is their own and getting paid for it.

Dog walker

Lagosians, especially those who live in highbrow areas like Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki and VGC, usually have a lot of things on their plate and barely have the time to groom, train or walk their pets. They employ dog walkers to help tackle that responsibility for them.
While the mere mention of a dog walker as a source of real money will come as a joke to many, there are people who do earn a living out of this job in Lagos and making good money. Keep in mind though that this job is basically best suited for people who are in love with animals and have the patience required.

Egypt cancels January friendly with Super Eagles

The Egypt Football Association has cancelled its proposed friendly match with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in January, following alleged disagreement with the Nigerian authorities on match expenses.
The Egypt FA, it was gathered, are not willing to bear all the expenses for the game as was demanded by Nigeria and have even gone ahead to fix another game with Tunisia about the same time.
The friendly between Egypt and Nigeria was billed to be played on January 9 in Dubai to prepare the Pharaohs for the AFCON in Gabon.

It has now been revealed that the Egypt vs Nigeria clash may have fallen through because the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are demanding their Egyptian counterparts bear their entire expenses and also because the Super Eagles will not be at full strength for this match.
“It has not yet been officially confirmed but it is looking very likely that the friendly against Egypt in Dubai in January will no longer hold,” a top official informed.
Reacting to the rumours yesterday, the NFF insisted that it is still committed to January date for the friendly match, stating that it has not been officially community by the Egypt FA.
“We have not received any message to that effect as at today (Sunday) from the Egypt FA. I don’t know anything about that”, stated the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.

The race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination is now open

By Election Day , ambitious Democrats had already resigned themselves to an eight -year wait for their chance in the national spotlight . Hillary Clinton was an overwhelming favorite against Donald Trump and, assuming she won , running a primary challenge against her in four years would be a fool’ s errand .
Then Clinton lost.
Although this most stunning upset in modern presidential history has produced ( and will produce ) a thousand aftershocks , one of the most unlikely and important is that the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 is now open .
That opening is made all the more remarkable by the fact that there is simply no logical heir ( or even heirs ) to President Obama or Clinton — no obvious candidate waiting in the wings to step forward and rebuild the party. Vice President Biden appears to have decided that he is done running for office . As a two -time loser , Clinton is done , too . And after that , the bench is , well , pretty thin .
Politics , of course , abhors a vacuum . So candidates will run . Here is a look at who they might be:
Sen . Cory Booker: Booker has been a national figure since the mid - 2000s , when he was elected mayor of Newark. His résumé — football at Stanford University , a Rhodes scholarship — is impressive , and many Democrats see the young ( he’ s 47) , charismatic, African American U . S . senator from New Jersey as the second coming of Obama. But the campaign that Booker ran for the Senate in 2013 was more competitive than it should have been largely because of his shaky performance . He may start the 2020 race as the front -runner , but he still has lots of questions that need answering .
Sen . Kirsten Gillibrand : Gillibrand may be the most logical heir to Clinton in the 2020 field , but it remains to be seen whether that is a good thing . When Obama chose Clinton to be secretary of state, Gillibrand was appointed to her Senate seat in New York and then won two subsequent elections to hold the seat, thanks to rock- star- level fundraising . Gillibrand , according to the New York Post, is already feeling out some of Clinton ’ s major donors about what comes next for the party. At 49, Gillibrand is one of a handful of women primed to be the next generation of female leaders for Democrats .
Sen . - elect Kamala Harris: Harris will not officially become a U . S . senator from California for more than a month, but she is already regarded as national-candidate material in four years . It is not hard to see why . She is the first African American woman elected to the Senate since Carol Moseley Braun in 1992. Harris also represents the largest and most Democratic state in the country , a huge financial launchpad to a presidential bid . ( Through mid -October , Harris had raised more than $13 million for her Senate candidacy . ) Her law - and-order background — she was elected and reelected attorney general in California — also will appeal to many Democrats . Whether Harris wants to — or will be ready to — run for national office so soon after being elected to the Senate remains to be seen .
Gov. John Hickenlooper : The Colorado governor was almost Clinton ’ s vice -presidential pick this time around . And in a field filled with Washington types , the governor of a swing state in the West could have real appeal . Hickenlooper also has a terrific life story — a Denver brewery owner who became mayor and governor — and a down -home demeanor that screams , “ I am not a politician . ” Hickenlooper ’ s biggest problem as a candidate may be that he is viewed as too moderate for the current Democratic Party. But some governor ( Missouri ’ s Jay Nixon? Delaware’ s Jack Markell?) will run for president , and , at the moment , Hickenlooper seems first among equals for that role .
Sen . Amy Klobuchar : Like Gillibrand , Klobuchar is an accomplished and ambitious senator who cuts the sort of profile that should put her in the mix for 2020. Unlike Gillibrand , however , Klobuchar represents Minnesota — not exactly a fundraising hotbed for a national candidate . But she has a very interesting legislative background — she worked with Rep . John Kline ( R -Minn . ) on ensuring veterans got the leave benefits they were promised before deploying , and she is a leading voice on adoption in the Senate.
First lady Michelle Obama : Let ’ s say this first : The soon - to - be-former first lady has never run for elected office and, to date , has shown absolutely no interest in doing so . But let ’ s also say this : She gave the two best political speeches of the past two years — the first at the Democratic National Convention in July , the second in New Hampshire in the fall , an emotional condemnation of Trump ’ s America . Obama has one thing — with the possible exception of Booker — that the rest of the people on this list lack : true star power . She would start the race not only totally known by base Democrats but also absolutely beloved . The issue for Obama is that being a candidate in your own right is very different from being a surrogate for a candidate .

Buhari moves to replace Osinbajo as VP

The war between President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress may have taken a new dimension.
The President is planning to replace Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election, reports The Point.
Tinubu was said to have singlehandedly
nominated Osinbajo for the position of Vice President in 2015.
Buhari is said to be planning to replace Osinbajo with a politician from the South-east.
Buhari plans to woo a former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, as a possible replacement for Osinbajo.
It is rumoured that the recent defection of Kalu to the APC is a prelude to his nomination as Buhari’s running mate in 2019.
It was gathered that Buhari decided to take the step in order to win over the South- east and perhaps South-south blocs in the event that the South-west zone withdraws its support for him in 2019.
President Muhammadu Buhari had a few days ago confirmed that he will seek a second term in office during the 2019 presidential election.
Buhari;s confirmation came a day after a former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) member, Buba Galadima said Buhari would be abandoned by the people if he decides to contest in 2019.

Though the cause of Okeke’s death is yet to be ascertained, some of his neighbours suggested that he was in debt, some said he was tired of schooling, others attributed his suicide to the loss of money in a network business he invested into according to
Naij .

His last post, in September, read: “MMM is enriching lives of millions of Nigerians everyday. If you care to join or you have any questions please send me a message or comment below.”

According to a reliable source inside the Linda Ikeji Media brand, Linda, 36, turned down the deal after owning up to her team that she is oblivious of the value of $2million in her new business since it is a new brand.

If govt fails to do the needful, we go on indefinite strike – ASUU

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chairman of UNN chapter, Dr Ifeanyi Abada has said that if government failed to meet with ASUU’s demands they will go on an indefinite strike.
The students made the appeal in Nsukka on Tuesday while reacting to the ongoing warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The President of the Students Union Government (SUG) in the university, Mr Emmanuel Chukwu pleaded with President Muhammad Buhari to urgently address the grievances of the striking lecturers.
Chukwu said that this had become necessary in order to prevent disruption in the academic calendar of universities in the country.
Miss Amarachi Okafor of the Department of Psychology urged the Federal Government to dialogue with ASUU not to allow the strike snowballed into an indefinite one.
Okafor also pleaded with ASUU to consider the plight of students who would be spending extra years in the university, especially in this period of recession.
“The longer the strike lingers, the more the rate of crimes will increase and parents will be paying more for extra years spent in school,’’ she said.
Another student, Mr Emmanuel Ochi of Mass Communication Department pleaded with ASUU to consider the interest of students in order not to constitute a setback to their academics.
“I want the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve their misunderstanding amicably in the interest of students and tertiary education in this country.
“Students have suffered enough over incessant strikes and we do not want a repeat of what happened in the last administration by ASUU,’’ he said.
Academic activities have continued to be paralysed at the UNN over the warning strike by ASUU.
The chairman of UNN-ASUU chapter, Dr Ifeanyi Abada sais that academic activities grounded in the university in compliance of directive by the National Executive Committee of ASUU.
“NEC made efforts to resolve this issue with government but it remained unyielding because of its insensitivity to issues concerning education.
“Since government failed to do the needful, ASUU is left with no option than to proceed on a one week warning strike and failure to meet with our demands we will go on an indefinite strike,’’ he said.
Abada said that ASUU was not taking it lightly with government on issues raised, especially the demand that universities be exempted from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy.
“The strike compliance in UNN is total, no lectures, no examinations no departmental and faculty meetings as members will not participate.
“UNN chapter will not renege on the directive of the national body till government addresses all the issues raised.
“Our monitoring team is moving round and any lecturer found teaching will be sanctioned accordingly,’’ he said.

Senate intervenes in ASUU strike

The Senate has expressed its resolve to intervene in the face-off between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The lawmakers specifically asked the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, to intervene in the matter and prevent ASUU from embarking on a one-week warning strike which begins on Wednesday.
The lawmakers, during the plenary on Tuesday, urged the two parties to dialogue.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared an industrial action against the federal government.

The one-week industrial action is expected to commence November 16 according to a circular signed by its president, Biodun Ogunyemi.
The umbrella body for lecturers in universities said the action was to force the government to meet meet the agreement it signed with lecturers in November 2013.

Messi To Leave Barcelona When Current Contract Expires

Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, will not sign a new deal with the club as he is prepare to leave when the current deal expires.
According to Madrid-based sports daily, Marca, the Argentina captain has told the club’s hierarchy about his decision, when he was on holiday in July with his family.
Messi is reportedly unhappy about what he sees as a witch hunt , by Spanish tax authorities.
Barcelona president, Josep Bartomeu, has recently sealed extensions for a number of key players including Sergio Busquets, Neymar and Javier Mascherano. Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen are all waiting for improved deals too.
Just last month, Bartomeu insisted he was not worried about Messi’s future and that negotiations would begin in January.
“We will have negotiations with Messi in the next couple of months,” he told The Telegraph.
“Right now Leo Messi has a contract to the end of the Russian World Cup [in 2018] and we are very happy with him. Very happy. He’s the best player in the world, by far.
“I don’t know what will happen in the future but of course we will always try to explain to him that he is at the best club in the world and this is the best place for him to live and he is living the best experience of his life with us.
“He is still only 29. And if you see him playing it seems like he is one of our very young players. Leo Messi reinvented himself two years ago and changed the way he played and he is a better player now than he was then, a much better player.
“So normally players increase and then reduce but he is still growing. So where are the limits? We don’t know.”

Mikel: Conte wasn't punishing me for playing in Olympic

John Obi Mikel today cleared the air that he is not being punished by Blues manager Antonio Conte for representing in the Olympics.
The Nigerian is yet any game for Chelsea this season and and Nigeria Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr seems to have suggest on Friday that Mikel wasn't playing because he left Conte's pre-season camp for Rio 2016 Olympics in August.
But in a statement today, Mikel said: "I’d like to clarify that the recent media claims I’ve been punished by Chelsea FC for participating at the Rio 2016 Olympics are completely inaccurate.
"Unfortunately comments made by Gernot Rohr before yesterday’s 3-1 win over Algeria were both mistranslated and taken out of context by the Nigerian media, as English isn’t Mr Rohr’s or much of the Nigerian media’s first language.
"To be absolutely clear, Mr Conte and Chelsea were always fully supportive of my captaincy of the Nigerian team at Rio.
"The manager gave me his full blessing to participate at the Olympics, and even encouraged me to bring back the gold medal - something I spoke to the media about at the time.
"It goes without saying there is nothing but absolute respect between myself, the Nigerian national team and Chelsea FC, something that was demonstrated by Mr Rohr’s recent visit to Cobham.
"My only focus now is on winning more silverware with Chelsea and getting Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup, two challenges I can’t wait to face in the coming months."

I love my children and there is nothing I can do to change the situation . I have moved on and I am married to one of the women who bore me kids. I no longer dwell on that issue.” he said.
2Baba is a recipient of several national and international awards which include an MTV Europe Music Award, a World Music Award, five Headies Awards, four Channel O Music Video Awards, a BET Award, four MTV Africa Music Awards and one MOBO Awards among others.

Sacked ministers warn May: Promote us in a year or there will be 'trouble'

Theresa May has been warned by sacked ministers that she must promote them back into Government within a year or face “trouble” in Parliament.
Senior Tories dismissed by the Prime Minister in the summer have privately warned their “loyalty” only stretches so far after being sent to the backbenches.
Some are ready to increasingly rebel over Mrs May’s grammar schools ban and Brexit priorities unless they are put back on the Government payroll soon.
The ultimatum, made in conversations with The Sunday Telegraph, is designed to make sure Mrs May makes good on indications there is a route back to the Government for those who behave.
“We have said we will be unflinchingly loyal for one year. But if they keep us on the back benches for longer we will start causing trouble,” one former ministersaid.
The warning came as it emerged leading cabinet ministers sacked by Mrs May in her brutal “purge” of David Cameron loyalists are planning for the long haul to rebuild their political careers.
George Osborne, the former chancellor, made clear he plans to stay in politics for “many years to come" at a recent constituency event according to one attendee.
At a celebration of his 15 years as MP for Tatton, Cheshire, Mr Osborne is understood to have said he will continue serving the constituency long into the future. “He made clear he is going nowhere”, said one person present.
Meanwhile Michael Gove, the former justice secretary also sacked in July, has begun re-engaging with British politics after a summer of contemplation and skipping Tory conference in October.
Mr Gove has done a series of high profile interviews making clear he would be willing to serve again on the Government benches if offered a role.
Some 29 ministers left the Government after Mrs May took over as PrimeMinister – a far higher number then her working majority in the House of Commons of around a dozen.
The unexpectedly brutal reshuffle saw Mrs May accused of “purging” allies of Mr Cameron and Mr Gove, who ran against her in the Tory leadership race.
At the time there were warnings that creating new enemies on the backbenches when the Tories only have a slim majority risked undermining her ability to win votes.
It is understood Tory whips and intermediaries for Mrs May’s team have let it be known there are paths back to Government for those former ministers who behave themselves.
However some have grown impatient and are warning that unless they are promoted by July 2017 they will begin to cause “trouble”.
The rebellion could amount to holding back support for votes in the Commons or taking an increasingly hostile line in public, creating unhelpful rows with Number 10.
One former minister said sacked colleagues would remain loyal – providing they are rewarded with a Government job within 12 months.
Others think Mrs May handled the reshuffle badly and created tensions with backbenches who expected promotion and serving ministers whose careers were cut short.
“She did not handle it very well. People weren’t properly told [they were sacked]," said one former minister said of the reshuffle.
“It looked like the message was ‘I’m sacking you for no other reason than for supporting Michael Gove’. If that was right, and I think it was, it is not the markings of a good leader. That was bad.”
“There were people who were dismissed who shouldn’t have been. One example of someone who was more than capable of running a department was Mark Harper [the former chief whip]. He was an excellent minister. I am a big fan of Nicky Morgan [the former education secretary] too. She is a huge talent.”
Not all those who have left office are frustrated. Some say they are enjoying the backbenches as an opportunity to speak out on behalf of their constituents.
Earlier this month, Mr Gove opened the door on a return to Government by saying he would be happy to serve if called upon.
"If the chance came to serve again then of course I would happily say ‘yes’, but I’m very happy being on the back benches at the moment because it gives me the opportunity to do all sorts of other things,” he said.
Mr Gove has also reversed his public position by backing Mrs May’s lifting of the ban on new grammar schools and praised her stance on delivering the Brexit vote.
However his new role on the Brexit committee in the Commons and previously frayed relationship with Mrs May mean there are still barriers to a ministerial return.

Trump seeking quickest way to quit Paris climate agreement, says report

Donald Trump is looking at quick ways of withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement in defiance of widening international backing for the plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions, Reuters has reported.
Since the US president-elect was chosen, governments ranging from China to small island states have reaffirmed support for the 2015 Paris agreement at 200-nation climate talks running until 18 November in Marrakesh, Morocco.
But, according to Reuters, a source in the Trump transition team said the victorious Republican, who has called global warming a hoax, was considering ways to bypass a theoretical four-year procedure for leaving the accord.
“It was reckless for the Paris agreement to enter into force before the election,” said the source, who works on Trump’s transition team for international energy and climate policy, speaking on condition of anonymity. The Paris agreement went into force on 4 November, four days before last Tuesday’s election.
Alternatives were to send a letter withdrawing from a 1992 convention that is the parent treaty of the Paris agreement, voiding US involvement in both in a year’s time, or to issue a presidential order simply deleting the US signature from the Paris accord, the source told Reuters.
Many nations have expressed hopes the United States will stay.
Morocco, the host for the talks, said the agreement that seeks to phase out greenhouse gases in the second half of the century was strong enough to survive a pullout.
“If one party decides to withdraw that it doesn’t call the agreement into question,” foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar told a news conference.
Despite the threat of a US withdrawal, US secretary of state John Kerry said on Sunday that he would continue his efforts to implement the Paris agreement until Barack Obama leaves office on 20 January.
Speaking in New Zealand following a trip to Antarctica, Kerry appeared to take a swipe at Trump when he listed some of the ways in which global warming could already be seen. He said that there were more fires, floods and damaging storms around the world, and sea levels were rising.
“The evidence is mounting in ways that people in public life should not dare to avoid accepting as a mandate for action,” Kerry said.
“Now the world’s scientific community has concluded that climate change is happening beyond any doubt. And the evidence is there for everybody to see,” Kerry said.
The Paris agreement was reached by almost 200 nations in December and, as of Saturday, has been formally ratified by 109 representing 76% of greenhouse gas emissions, including the United States with 18%.
The accord seeks to hold global warming to no more than 2C above pre-industrial levels to limit rising temperatures that have been linked to increasing economic damage from desertification, extinctions of animals and plants, heat waves, floods and rising sea levels.
United Nations climate chief Patricia Espinosa declined to comment on the Trump source’s remarks to Reuters.
“The Paris agreement carries an enormous amount of weight and credibility,” she told a news conference. She said the UN hoped for a strong and constructive relationship with Trump.
The Trump source blamed US president Barack Obama for joining up by an executive order, without getting approval from the Senate. “There wouldn’t be this diplomatic fallout on the broader international agenda if Obama hadn’t rushed the adoption,” he said.

Voters target Electoral College members to switch their Trump ballots, elect Clinton

Voters upset that Republican Donald Trump had been elected president -- or think that the presidency was unfairly taken from Democratic rival Hillary Clinton -- are scrambling for ways to change the results.
Their major focus is trying to get members of the U.S. Electoral College to change their vote, arguing that Clinton should be the next president because 60.47 Americans voted for her, compared to 60 million for Trump.
The college is part of the Constitution and is composed of 538 members, with each state and the District of Columbia having one member, or electorate, for every senator or House lawmaker.
Trump won 290 of the so-called electoral votes, in the race to get a minimum 270.
However, members don’t officially cast their ballots until December 19, which has Trump opponents making long-shot efforts to reverse the outcome, including petition drives to get the electorates to switch their votes.
The largest effort is through the website Change.org, which as of Saturday has about 3 million signatures, getting closer to its goal of 4.5 million.
Petition organizers argue on the site that some states don’t require their electorates to vote for the presidential nominee who had the most votes in their state.
And for electorates in states that by law require them to ballot for the nominee who won the most votes, “their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine,” the organizers write. “We can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!”
One online petition signer wrote on the site via Twitter: “It’s our chance of getting Trump out of the whitehouse.”
Another grassroots petition drive is being launched by Faithlessnow.com, as reported by Yahoo News.
Organizers in that drive are targeting roughly 160 Republican electorates in the 15 states that Trump won and don’t have laws bounding the electorates to the winner: Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.
The most recent presidential election in which a nominee won the popular vote but lost the election through the Electoral College vote was 2000, when Democrat Al Gore lost to Republican George W. Bush following a days-long recount of votes in Florida and other states.
Clinton and Trump at the time purportedlycalled for an end to the entire Electoral College system. And renewed calls emerged after Election Day 2016, on Tuesday, in large part because voters think the system is no longer needed to safeguard the country from a dangerous president.
A Baltimore Sun editorial this weekend called the college a “convoluted system” and “the product of an 18th century compromise forged over issues that no longer apply and resting on assumptions about the wisdom of the average person we no longer hold.”
“It is not worked the way it was intended almost from the very beginning,” continued the editorial, which also suggests that U.S. states follow Maryland’s lead by essentially joining a movement that could side-step needing a constitutional amendment to change the system.

Why Wizkid lost African award: MTV

Organisers of the MTV EMAs have blamed human error for awarding Nigeria’s Wizkid the ‘Best African Act’ award last month.
The award has now been given to Tanzania’s Ali Kiba, meaning Wizkid now retains only the “Best Worldwide Act” award
The stripping of Wizkid of the African award provoked a social media outcry, but MTV explained:

‘Both Wizkid and Alikiba are great artistes and deserving winners at the MTV EMAs and we congratulate them wholeheartedly on their achievements. We apologise for any confusion but we are pleased to recognise the achievements of both these artists on this global platform.’
‘Worldwide Act’ winners, including Wizkid, were selected by an international committee of MTV music executives to recognise current artists who are rising to have a wider geographic appeal beyond their local regions.
The winners were chosen based on a range of criteria including international MTV video play, radio airplay, streams, and sales across multiple territories and regions.
The winner of the ‘Best African Act’ award was selected by fans via votes on MTVEMA.com.
Ali Kiba has also commented on winning the award saying, ‘Thanks to MTV for this huge honour – it’s very exciting to be recognized at the MTV EMAs and I am delighted to bring home the award to my fans in Tanzania and East Africa. Thank you to my family and management.’

Facebook says founder Mark Zuckerberg, others dead

An unusual bug on Facebook briefly labelled many people as dead.
The error caused the social network to show a memorial banner on user profiles for people who were still alive.
Users posted status updates to reassure friends and family they were not dead, in spite Facebook’s message.
“This was a terrible error that we have now fixed,” a Facebook spokesperson said.

“We are very sorry that this happened.”
The message, intended for “memorialised profiles”, erroneously appeared on the profile pages of a large number of users including the network’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
“We hope people who love Mark will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life,” the banner on his page read.
Both technology reporters and users of the platform, however, saw a humorous side to the story.
“Why Is Facebook Saying I’m Dead?” asked the New York Times’ Katie Rogers. “At first, I was indignant. I was definitely not dead. (Was I? It had been a long week.)”
“Facebook is capping one of the longest weeks in American history by telling everyone that they are dead,” quipped The Verge, a technology website, in reference to the presidential election.
The memorial feature was introduced in 2015 after a number of high-profile cases where family wanted to access the social accounts of deceased loved ones.
User can opt to have their account turn into a memorial page upon their death, where the social network contacts can leave message and share memories.
An alternative option is to have your account deleted after your death

American judge rules against President-elect Donald Trump

U.S. Federal judge, Gonzalo Curiel, on Thursday in San Diego, California, largely sided with plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit against President-elect Donald Trump over the defunct Trump University.
The case is scheduled to go to trial later this month and Trump is expected to testify in his own defence against allegations that Trump University for-profit business seminars were a hoax and hundreds of individuals were charged large sums of money for courses that were essentially worthless.
Judge Curiel ruled against Trump’s legal team seeking to ban testimony relating to Trump’s conduct during the presidential campaign.
Curiel also ruled against Trump’s request to ban testimony about Trump University’s “F” rating by the Better Business Bureau and the fact that it has since gone bankrupt.
He also denied a request by Trump’s lawyers to ban discussion of the financial condition of students, many of whom described themselves as poor, and what impact the seminar fees had on their lives.
Trump’s lawyers argued testimony about the presidential campaign, and testimony about the other elements of the case are irrelevant and would serve to colour the jury’s opinion of Mr. Trump and his business venture.
Curiel ruled in favour of allowing Trump’s defence team to call students who would tell “success stories” about how the courses improved their understanding of business and real estate.
Trump has steadfastly defended Trump University as a worthwhile investment for participants. The courses promised to offer students inside information on how he built his business.

In a technical ruling, Mr. Curiel found insufficient evidence or supporting case law to warrant granting Mr. Trump’s other requests, though he said Mr. Trump’s lawyers could object to individual pieces of testimony during the trial.
The trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 28

Revati gets perplexed as she is unable to apply haldi on Ira's body. Savitri intervenes and says that if the haldi doesn't get applied on the bride's body it means that the bride is not ready for the wedding. Revati asks Ira if she is marrying Sam against her will. Ira replies that she is marrying Sam only to fulfill Isha's last wish. Revati asks Ira to go and get ready for the wedding. Girish finds a toy car in the wedding gifts and fails to understand who must have sent it. The unknown woman who is covering her face with a shawl again enters Ojha House.

She adds that Mayank is ready to accept the proposal. Dayal asks Shail to invite Charu's family for dinner. He asks why is she wearing this. She says daadi gave it to her. Abhi says if daadi has given it to her, then she should show it to her and drags her. Daadi sees that. Pragya hides her legs and apologizes. Daadi scolds Abhi for giving Pragya this dress. Abhi says she told me you gave it to her. Pragya says Aaliya gave it to her saying daadi gave it.
