RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 1ST DECEMBER.

TAKE UP HIS CONCERNS.

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you (John 20:21) .

Each one of us has a divine responsibility in Christ, to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. We’re the ones expected to win the world for Jesus Christ, and we have to do everything necessary to make that happen. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

His concerns must be our concerns. What He cares about is what we should care about; otherwise, our lives will be empty. Life is nothing without God’s purpose. Think about it: your forebears were here, but they’re gone; then the next ones came and now they’re gone also, and the list is endless, until it finally got to you. So, the question is, “What are you doing here?” Jesus said, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8:36-37).

Your purpose for life is very important; God’s purpose for your life is primarily for you to be His agent of salvation and partner in winning others to Christ. Be definite about this. Live for this cause. Most people live their lives without ever discovering why they were born; they just walk through life and all they think about is themselves. There isn’t a worse life than that of a selfish man who only thinks of himself.

Your prayers shouldn’t be only about you, your family, your job, your needs, and everything else that has to do with you. Take up the Lord’s concerns and intercede for lost souls. The Bible says He wishes not that any person should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). This can only be if you take up your role as a soul-winner and an intercessor.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for giving me a purpose in life. My heart burns with passion for the Gospel. I’m dedicated to a life that’s meaningful, a life directed to impact others with the power of your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:
1 Corinthians 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Unveiling Nigeria’s Top 100 Companies

The names that made the list of Nigeria’s top 100 companies command such power and wealth such that the initiative of President Goodluck Jonathan has come to define the country’s business operations.
Dangote Group, First Bank, Chevron and Elizade are among the top 100 companies.
MTN, Globacom, Chi Group, Nigerian Breweries, Nigeria Flour Mills, UAC, APN Terminal, Eko Supreme, Mamuda Industries, Dolphin Foods, Wemco, Bolawaole Enterprises and Indorama are also recognised.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, described the Top 100 Businesses Initiative as a bold effort to celebrate major investors and companies that are contributing to the development of the economy.
In selecting the top businesses, Aganga said the country adopted similar criteria as Fortune 500 in the US, hence it is objective and verifiable. “We want to make it absolutely clear that it has integrity. Coincidentally, it is happening in the year of our centenary. But we will in 120 years, in 150 years, in 200 years go back to the Centenary City, we will see the emblem of these companies as a Top 100 companies in the year Nigeria had its centenary,” he stated.
The Minister went on: “We are proud of these achievements because it is investors that create jobs for our people, wealth, facilitate economic growth and generate income for the government.
“We intend to use this Top 100 Businesses Presidential Award Dinner to say big thank you to those companies for their firm commitment and belief in our economy and to charge them to do more by bringing more investments to Nigeria.
“It is also aimed at creating a platform for public-private sector interactions on Nigerian economic policies.
“The Top 100 list is already showing diversity in our economy which is good news. They cut across sectors including oil and gas, telecommunications, manufacturing, financial services, construction, fast moving consumables, food manufacturers, logistics, among others.
“This process has, once again, demonstrated that there are many reputable companies in Nigeria. It is a tough job finalising this list. Nigeria is gifted with winners, great investors, great companies and, of course, the opportunities in Nigeria are huge.
“That is why we are organising the Top 100 event in this country for the first time. We are identifying the top 100 companies in Nigeria and recognising these companies for believing strongly and investing in this economy. Those companies have built considerable skills in Nigerians and continued to show strong commitments.
“In Nigeria of today’s business world, the companies that make up the top first 100 and subsequent ones, wield enormous power and influence government policy on a regular basis.
“Behind Nigeria’s economic success, are real companies that do business everyday. Those companies invest, employ our people and they keep our economy growing. This administration is aware that it is private companies that are driving our economy. Government is here to provide enabling environment. it is the private sector that will help Nigeria achieve its economic goals.”
Like the America’s Fortune 500, the Minister said the Top 100 Businesses Assessment Committee gleaned information from public companies’ annual reports, Nigeria Stock Exchange, NSE, the Financial Reporting Council, FRC, as well as reports from private companies that publish revenue figures, to decide the winners.
The committee was headed by the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the FRC, Mr. Jim Obazee.
Other members were Director-General, Industrial Training Fund, Mrs. Juliet Onaeko; Managing Director, Bank of Industries, Mr. Rasheed Olaoluwa; Executive Secretary, Sugar Council, Dr. Lateef Busari; Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr. Oscar Onyema; Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Kabir Mashi; and Managing Director, Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority, Mr. Gbenga Kuye.
Also in the committee were the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Mrs. Salatu Umar; Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Mr. Olusegun Awolowo; CEO, Jake Riley Limited, Mrs. Funmi Ogbue; a Director from MITI, Bambo Kunle-Salami, and representatives of the Minister.

Mourinho in search of Sunderland revenge

Jose Mourinho will attempt to overturn a
landmark defeat when Premier League leaders
Chelsea visit Sunderland this weekend.
The last time the two clubs met was in April
when Gus Poyet’s Sunderland’s side –- then
rooted at the foot of the table — pulled off a
shock win at Stamford Bridge.
Defeat brought an end to Mourinho’s 77-game
unbeaten home league run in two spells as
Chelsea manager and helped derail the Blues title
bid.
Mourinho’s side have not lost in the league since
and last weekend’s one-sided dismissal of West
Bromwich Albion helped extend the club’s lead at
the head of the Premier League to six points after
just 12 games.
The 5-0 victory at Schalke in midweek confirmed
Chelsea’s place in the knockout stage of the
Champions League and extended the Blues’
unbeaten start to the season to 19 games in all
competitions.
A demanding schedule between now and the turn
of the year will test Mourinho’s squad, but with
their main rivals regularly dropping points, it is
hard to see their commanding lead being whittled
away in the foreseeable future.
Unlike other leading Premier League clubs,
Chelsea have managed to negotiate the opening
months of the campaign without losing key
players to long-term injury.
And defender Branislav Ivanovic said: “We are
playing as a team at the moment. It’s still an
early stage of the year and we know how many
games we have to play until the end of the
season to win trophies. We have games every
three days now.
“At the moment we are very calm and everyone is
thinking in the same direction,” he added.
Cesc Fabregas had a hand in four of the goals
that crushed Schalke and the Spain midfielder
said he was playing the best football of his career
following his close season switch from Barcelona.
“I am playing next to great players and they are
playing very well and are helping me,” the former
Arsenal playmaker said. “We have a young,
talented team and the mood at the training
ground is great.”
Connor Wickham scored in Sunderland’s 2-1 win
in west London seven months ago that helped
them pull off their escape from relegation, and the
former England Under-21 international insisted
another surprise result shouldn’t be ruled out.
Poyet’s mid-table Black Cats face a tough run of
fixtures heading into December, with defending
champions Manchester City following the leaders
in visiting the Stadium of Light.
“We know we can do it from our performances
last year,” Wickham said. “We just need to play
the way we have been playing, and hopefully it’ll
happen again.
“We had the same situation last season when we
faced Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester
United in quick succession, but we managed to
pull off something remarkable then.”
Sunderland have lost just three times in the
league this season. But seven draws leaves them
too close to the relegation zone for comfort.
Wickham added: “We’ve probably had too many
draws which we could have won.”
Former Chelsea midfielder Poyet is relishing his
latest meeting with the Blues after helping the
club lift the FA Cup and European Cup Winners’
Cup during a successful four-year spell following
his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 1997.
The Sunderland head coach said: “I had a great
time there, but my focus is fully on Sunderland. It
will be nice to catch up with a few old friends, but
as soon as the game kicks-off, I won’t see
anything other than our red and white.”

Van Persie struggling for confidence, admits van Gaal

Louis van Gaal admits Manchester United striker
Robin van Persie is struggling for confidence after
a bad performance against Arsenal.
Van Persie had only 13 touches of the ball in
United’s 2-1 win against his former club last
weekend, three of which were while taking
corners, before Van Gaal replaced him with 18-
year-old James Wilson for the last 15 minutes.
In the whole of 2014 van Persie has scored only
eight goals in 21 Premier League games and
United manager van Gaal concedes his fellow
Dutchman is stuck in a rut.
“I do think 13 is few for a striker. I want to
improve that. You can count his touches on the
ball but more important is how he is playing,” van
Gaal said.
“It was a very bad game for him. That is why I
changed him. When I change a player, it is not
because he is the best player on the pitch. You
are doing something wrong.”
Asked what van Persie needs to do to get back to
his previous standard as one the best strikers in
England, van Gaal added: “It is a question of
confidence, or maybe scoring a wonderful goal at
the right moment.
“You know how strikers are. They have to score
goals. They feel like that. It is not that I am
asking that.
“I have said they have to be an attacking point
and help our team in the third and fourth phase.
For me, it is not important who scores. The team
has to score.”
Van Gaal, whose side face Hull at Old Trafford on
Saturday, also warned van Persie he will have to
fight for his place as he prepares to welcome
Radamel Falcao back to his squad after injury.
Falcao’s loan spell at Old Trafford has been
disrupted by injuries, but van Gaal is hopeful the
Colombia forward can feature against Hull.
Asked if Falcao’s return would increase the
pressure on Van Persie, van Gaal said: “Every
player in my selection has to fight for his position
and I shall always take the best of the players
and it must also be suitable for the mix of
players. So it is also an obligation of a player that
he does that.”

FIFA awards 'not good for football' - Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho raised
a few eyebrows on Friday when he said he had
no interest in awards like FIFA's FIFPro World XI
list for 2014.
The outspoken Portuguese made his comments
despite the fact two of his players, Belgium
winger Eden Hazard and Spain midfielder Cesc
Fabregas, are on the shortlist to make the World
XI team.
"When I see these trophies I think they are not
good for football. I don't care about them,"
Mourinho told a news conference on the eve of
Premier League leaders Chelsea's visit to 14th-
placed Sunderland.
"Sometimes it looks like we're looking for stars...
looking for people more important than other
people and this is not the culture we want in this
club."
Mourinho believes Hazard and Fabregas share his
views on these type of awards.

Paul Walker's Look-Alike Brother Steps In for Late Actor in Fast & Furious 7

Paul Walker‘s look-alike brother Cody was
spotted Friday on the California set of Fast &
Furious 7, providing an eerie, doppelgänger vision
of the late actor, who died in a car crash in
November.
Cody, along with brother Caleb, has been tapped
to stand in for Paul, as filmmakers finish the
movie after initially putting the brakes on
it following the actor’s death. It’s now set to hit
theaters on April 10, 2015.
In the pic, Cody – on location in Pacific
Palisades and wearing a gray crew-neck shirt –
is an uncanny, spitting image of his brother, his
buzz cut and classic matinee-idol looks evoking
the undeniable appeal that made Paul a star.
Producers announced in April that the actor’s
brothers would help them complete the film,
noting that although Walker had finished
shooting Fast & Furious 7’s dramatic scenes,
there were several action sequences that had yet
to be filmed.
“We had to take time to grieve Paul, the brother
we love and lost, and to figure out if we should
move on with our film,” producers said in a
statement posted on the film’s Facebook
page. “We came together and all felt the only
choice was to continue. We believe our fans
want that, and we believe Paul would want that
too.”
“We have resumed shooting,” the statement
added, “and now welcome Paul’s brothers, Caleb
and Cody, into our Fast family. Caleb and Cody
are helping us complete some remaining action
for their brother and fill in small gaps left in
production. Having them on set has made us all
feel that Paul is with us too.”

How My 21-Year Marriage To President Jonathan Has Survived – Patience Jonathan

Speaking on how they first met while they
were at the Rivers state College of Education
where she was pursuing her Nigerian
Certificate of Education (NCE) and B.Ed while
he was a lecture at the department of
Biological science, First Lady Patience
Jonathan said what attracted him to her was
his religious background, and good looks..
“My first impression of him was of a tall,
dark, handsome young man. I also found
that he came from a good Christian home
just like I did. His humble and gentle
disposition caught my attention and most
importantly, his intelligence”.
Dame Jonathan, who married President
Jonathan in 1993, said praying together and
discussing everything together has been a
sustaining force in their 21 year marriage.
“Both of us are from Christian homes and
our complete trust is in Jesus Christ. We
pray together as a family every morning.
What keeps us together is that we are
each others best friends and soul-mate.
We discuss everything that comes up and
advice each other accordingly. We depend
on each other. We do not let the sun set
on our grievances” she said
The couple are blessed with 4 children, a son
Arewera Adolphus, Daughters Aruabi and
Abayola and Faith Sakwe-Edwards, their foster
daughter who had a grand wedding in April.

Obasanjo rubbishes National Assembly, says it’s an assembly of thieves, looters.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, today Nov.
26th rubbished the National Assembly, saying it
is an Assembly of looters and thieves. He said
this while speaking at the public presentation of
the autobiography of Justice Mustapha Akanbi, in
Abuja. Some of what he said below...
"Apart from shrouding the remunerations of the
National Assembly in opaqueness and without
transparency, they indulge in extorting money
from departments, contractors and ministries in
two ways"
"They do so during visits to their projects and
programmes and in the process of budget
approval when they build up budgets for
ministries and departments, who agree to give it
back to them in contracts that they do not
execute. They do similar things during their
inquiries.”
"Corruption in the National Assembly also
includes what they call constituency projects
which they give to their agents to execute but
invariably, full payment is made with little or no
job done. In all this, if the executive is not
absolutely above board, the offending members
of the National Assembly resort to subtle or open
threat, intimidation and blackmail. When the
executive pay the huge money, normally in
millions of dollars, all is quiet in form of
whitewashed reports that fail to deal effectively
with the issues investigated.”
"When the guard is the thief, only God can keep
the house safe and secure. But I am optimistic
that sooner than later, we will overcome. God will
give us guards of integrity and honesty with the
fear of God and genuine love of their people and
their country.
“Today, there is no institution of government
that is not riddled with corruption, not even the
military. As the people cry out, where then is the
salvation.” Obasanjo said

Rhapsody of Realities

The Holy Spirit—Our Indispensable Helper!
Wednesday, November 26th .
Pastor Chris
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide with you
forever (John 14:16).
The Holy Spirit is an extraordinary gift to us God’s
children (Acts 2:38). He, in the parlance of
computer science, is like the “downloader.” It takes
the Holy Spirit to “download” heavenly files, and
bring heavenly materiality into the human system.
He alone, for example, can help you accept the
virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His sacrificial
death,triumphant resurrection, and His glorious
ascension into heaven. Only the Holy Spirit can
convince you that the blood of Jesus Christ was
adequate for the salvation of humanity. So when
you find that you can understand and accept these
spiritual realities, it means the Holy Spirit has
unveiled them to you; He’s working in your life.
When Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do men say
I am?” only Peter spoke rightly, and said, “Thou art
the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew
16:16). The Master’s response to Peter was, “…
Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and
blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father
which is in heaven” (Matthew 16:17). Peter wasn’t
guessing; he certainly didn’t know this in his head;
the knowledge of who Jesus is was imparted tohim
by the Holy Spirit. There’re no human parameters
that can help you comprehend spiritual realities.
Even in preaching and ministering salvation to
others, you must understand that the Gospel that
we’ve been given and charged to take to the
nations of the world, is a Gospel that can’t be
humanly explained and accepted. Consequently, we
need the Holy Spirit to minister through us, and to
help bring the understanding of the message to
those to whom we minister. His help is inevitable
in everything we do.
Never find yourself doing anything or building
anything by your own natural strength or human
wisdom; it'll fail. Psalm 127:1 says, “Except the
LORD build the house, they labour in vain that
build it....” Perhaps you’re a minister of the Gospel,
don’t try to build the Church by your own strength;
don’t rely on your natural abilities, for that alone
won’t work. Depend on the Holy Spirit. Take
advantage of His glorious ministry in your life.
He’s in you to help you live the triumphant
Christian life and be successful in all that you do,
to the glory of the Father. He’s your indispensable
Helper!
PRAYER
I thank you Father for filling me with the Holy
Spirit, who continually reveals Christ Jesus to me,
and grants me insight into mysteries and secrets of
the Kingdom. I’m mightily helped by Him today to
live triumphantly, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Further Study: Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power,
after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye
shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and
in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth. ;
1 Corinthians 2:10-11 But God hath revealed them
unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all
things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what
man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit
of man which is in him? even so the things of God
knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
John 14:16 AMP And I will ask the Father, and He
will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper,
Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby),
that He may remain with you forever.

President in Trouble, Reps list 50 impeachable offence against Jonathan.

ABUJA — Indications emerged yesterday that
members of the House of Representatives are on
the same page with their Senate counterparts in
their bid to impeach President Goodluck
Jonathan.
It was reliably gathered that the assemblymen
would start impeachment process against the
President immediately it reconvenes next
Wednesday.
This is just as the lawmakers coordinating the
impeachment process have disclosed that they
have identified over 50 constitutional violations
against the President, which would form part of
the impeachment notice.
A ranking officer in the House who revealed this
said both chambers have resolved to work
together for the common good of the country by
impeaching President Jonathan for “incompetence,
corruption and unprecedented impunity.”
He revealed that the impeachment plot against
Jonathan was not a partisan affair, explaining
that lawmakers from all the political parties have
identified with the “cause” and will not give up
until the President is “sent packing.”
“I’m sure you read the reports today that
senators are going to move against Jonathan.
Now you can confirm that the impeachment thing
is not about APC. It is a non-partisan cause. We
have all resolved that the man (President
Jonathan) must go.
“Never in the history of Nigeria has a leader
displayed such crass incompetence as we have
seen in President Jonathan. It is glaring and you
can feel it. Mr. President, with due respect, has
shown that he is not capable of running this
country. That is the basic truth”, he stated.
According to the lawmaker, over 50 impeachable
offences have been identified against the
president and members of the House would work
closely with the Senate to ensure that the
president is impeached.

Worst Airport in Africa

Three Nigerian airports have been rated among
the worst in Africa. While Murtala Muhammed
International Airport, Lagos, is voted the 10th
worst in Africa, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International
Airport, Abuja, and Port Harcourt International
Airport, Port Harcourt were ranked the seventh
and the sixth worst airports on the continent.
Other airports with dismal performance in 2014
are Khartoum International Airport, Sudan (first);
Kinshasa N’djili International Airport, Democratic
Republic of the Congo (second) among
others. This was contained in a survey conducted
by The Guide To Sleeping in Airports, the website
that documents information on airports and the
people who sleep in them.In a statement by the
website, voters submitted stories as they relate to
unfortunate airport experiences across the
continent. “From dirty floors and bathrooms to
the regular request for bribes, travellers were
unimpressed with the airports that made it onto
this year’s worst airports in Africa list.
FAAN spokesperson, Mr. Yakubu Datti, has,
however, dismissed the result of the survey,
saying that it could not be accurate. In a
telephone interview, Datti said other organisations
had positively rated Nigeria airports. “I am just
arriving from an event where improvement of
Nigerian airports has been applauded,” he said.He
promised to provide data that would counter the
result of the survey, but he did not do so until
press time.
